What should I pack for a basketball tournament?
Start with the event’s required uniform, basketball shoes, water and any instructed personal ball. Separate the court bag from overnight luggage, stage the court bag in use order, and confirm food, transport, lodging and return-load needs with the organizer before adding anything.

Confirm before packing
Check the exact event instructions for uniform sets, whether players bring a ball, water refill access, food arrangements, required forms, lodging and local transportation. Do not copy another camp’s list as tournament policy. The current Saint Vincent residential example provides basketballs for instruction but requires bedding and does not provide airport transportation; another event may make the opposite choices.
Write each answer beside the itinerary rather than adding every possible item. A day tournament, hotel weekend and residential camp have different baggage jobs. Check venue bag restrictions separately from airline or bus rules because one does not establish the other.
Build the court bag
Playing kit: put the required uniform and basketball shoes where they can be retrieved before the first game. Add a personal ball only when instructed, and keep medication or required credentials in their designated accessible place.
Between games: keep the bottle and permitted food reachable without disturbing the uniform or electronics. Pack only the layer or clothing change the schedule requires. If a charging device is essential, verify the physical fit and keep it away from wet gear.
Return load: give used shoes, damp clothing and towels a separate destination before departure. That may be an appropriate compartment, a removable washable organizer or a second bag. Ventilation labels do not make damp gear dry during transit.
Keep the travel load separate
Place hotel clothing, toiletries and other overnight belongings in separate luggage if they can remain away from the court. Keep the court bag available during transit and check-in, but do not overload it with items that can stay in the room.
Before departure, match the actual packed load to the event list, test normal closure and access, and measure the packed exterior for the booked transport. Product capacity and unloaded dimensions do not guarantee that every item fits together or that a carrier accepts the bag.
